January 2014
During the rainy winter months, if the ground is wet, contact the ride leader on the morning of the ride to see if it's been relocated to a drier trail. There may also be a notice on the web site (http://www.nrmbc.org), or the NRMB egroup, but don't rely on this if there is not a comment.
Looking for a map link to the trailhead? Just click on the "directions" under the ride write-up, this is a link to Google maps!

NEWS FOR EVERYONE
Saturday, January 25: CORBA Trail Work Day.
Come out and help build and fix up the trails we love to ride! It feels great to ride a trail you've helped build and maintain. For more information, visit the CORBA Trail Crew page. Work days usually last until about 2:00. Be sure to wear suitable clothing (sturdy shoes, long pants and sleeves, hat, GLOVES) and bring snacks, sunscreen and WATER. CORBA will provide the tools and training.
Remember that CORBA treats volunteers to lunch after the event and gives away great swag to volunteers who register beforehand! Further info on the trailwork can be found on the online registration page (see below). Pre-registration is greatly appreciated because it helps CORBA know how many tools to bring, and to plan how much work can be done.
CORBA's lunch will be after trailwork ends, so bring along a snack to tide you over! Time: 8:30 am.
We'll be returning to the Newton Canyon section of the Backbone Trail, east of Latigo Canyon Rd to 'The Saddle,' to clear up some overgrowing brush and possibly install some more drainages. Due to limited parking, registration is required. Full details and online registration can be found at http://www.meetup.com/CORBAmtb/events/154081722/
Sunday, February 2: Super Bowl XLVIII Party!.
It is almost time for Super Bowl XLVIII! This will be the first Super Bowl to be played outdoors in a cold weather environment, so get ready for new Super Bowl action viewed on a new 70” TV! We will enjoy a performance by Bruno Mars for the half time show. If Bruno isn’t your thing, weather permitting, we will have a putting contest at half time on a good sized putting green out back! Those who are interested can bring their favorite putter or you can borrow one of mine. So come and watch, enjoy friends, throw something on the BBQ and join the football pool, and maybe try some putting.
Bring something to BBQ, something to share and something to drink. The game kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. so let's get together around 3:00 p.m. to kick off the fun!

Saturday, January 18: Santa Barbara - Little Pine (Advanced).
Climbers, this is your ride: 13 miles of steep fireroad. You will, however, be rewarded for your effort by a 6-7 mile super-sweet, super-technical singletrack that descends down a beautiful canyon. From the Lower Oso parking lot we’ll climb approximately 4 miles up a steep fireroad, alongside a scenic riverbed, to the Cameusa Connector trail turnoff. From here we will continue climbing 2 more miles to a fork in the road and continue up the left fork for another 4 miles to a section of switchbacks known as "The Wall." From the top of The Wall it's another 2 - 2½ miles of moderate climbing to the Water Tower. We’ll continue along the saddle of the mountain from the Water Tower for about 1 - 1.5 more miles to the top where we'll enjoy some lunch and take in the scenic view of the Santa Barbara foothills, Cachuma Lake and, even the ocean on a clear day. Now comes the very narrow (with exposure) and very technical 6-7 mile singletrack decent. You also have the option of going back the down the fireroad to the parking lot if you don't feel up to the singletrack. Meet at 9:00 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.

The 154 will head up and over the mountain. Once you cross a very long bridge look for the Paradise Road turn-off, and turn right. Drive several miles to the Forest Ranger kiosk, in the middle of the road, where you can purchase an Adventure Pass. Continue straight across the cement bridge through the riverbed and park in the Lower Oso parking lot on the right by the bathrooms. Here's where we'll meet to start our ride. Plan for a 1.5 to 1.75 hour drive to get there from Thousand Oaks.
Sunday, January 19: Santa Rosa/Wildwood Loop.
We start by climbing the hill behind CLU and traverse across the ridge toward the nursery for a quick warm-up. After a short stop we’ll retrace our tracks and cut-off onto the Santa Rosa trail that leads into Wildwood Park. This is a very fun singletrack that is moderate to fairly technical. There are some great views of the Santa Rosa Valley along the way. Once down in Wildwood we’ll head out towards Lizard Rock via the Stagecoach singletrack or the fireroad (your choice). From here we will take the Lizard Rock singletrack down to the valley floor and head on to the falls. Then there’s a fairly steep but relatively short climb up the beginning part of the Lynnmere trail. After the climb there is a lot of fun to be had on the rest of the singletrack, which leads out to Lynn Road. From here it is just a short road ride back to the cars. Meet at 9:30 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.

We begin with a moderate to somewhat difficult climb up the Caballero singletrack to dirt Mulholland. Then we head east along Mulholland, climbing up to the Nike tower. After a quick break in the shade, we'll aim down Westridge, taking the many singletracks that parallel the fireroad, providing better views at the tops of the steep climbs, and fun technical descents. When we get to the paved part of Westridge, we'll turn around, but ride up the fireroad, not the ST, back to the Nike tower. From there it's a trip west on Mulholland, and then a fun ride down Caballero back to the cars. Meet at 9:00 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.
