Thursday, June 4: Weekday Morning Ride.   Are you free during the week for a ride? Come join us for our new weekday morning rides, to be held once a week. The location of the the ride will be determined 1 to 2 days in advance. If the weather is expected to be cool, we'll ride at one of our regular inland spots. If it looks like it's going to be a scorcher, we'll find somewhere cooler! The location will be announced on the eGroup (http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/North_Ranch_Mtn_Bikers/) the evening before the ride at the latest. The expected difficulty will be about E3-T3, but the ride route will be determined at the trailhead and may be a little easier or more difficult than this. Meet at 9:00 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.

Saturday, June 6: Mt. Pinos.   There’s nothing like mountain biking in the pines!!! Mt. Pinos is the tallest peak in Ventura County at over 8000 feet. Although it’s a strenuous ride up the mountain it’s mucho fun (especially on the downhill return). We will ride the very scenic McGill Trail to the top of Mt. Pinos. It’s a tough climb so we’ll make a few stops on the way up. We’ll bike to the peak and take in the awesome 360* view. The trip back is a blast and descends along the same trail. Meet at 9:00 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.
Endurance Rating = E5, Technical Rating = T4, 19 Miles and 4400 Feet of Climbing , About 4.5 Hours
, Ride Leader: Huck

Please make sure to RSVP!

Directions:   Drive up Interstate 5 about 25 miles North of Magic Mountain. Exit at the Fraizer Park exit. Turn left and go under the freeway. Stay on Frazier Park Road; avoid the left turn at the intersection of Lockwood Valley Road about 7 miles from I-5, continuing on to the right, as Frazier Park Road becomes Cuddy Valley Road. At about 11.5 miles from I-5, stay left on Cuddy Valley Road, which becomes Mount Pinos Road, as the road curves left at an intersection with a road leading towards the Pine Mountain Club. Shortly after the left curve you will see a big dirt lot on the right. The ride starts there. Allow at least 90 minutes for the drive from the Conejo Valley area.

Sunday, June 7: Cheeseboro/Bell Canyon.   We will begin with an easy to moderate climb up the Sulphur Springs Trail to Shepherd’s Flat. Then it’s a short ride east on the connector trail, which takes us to a strenuous climb up the power line fireroad. We will descend down the other side and cutoff onto a singletrack that goes though a portion of Bell and Las Virgenes Canyons. Then it’s another strenuous climb up Gaspipe to Sheep's Corral. From here it’s all downhill back to the cars via the Sulphur Spring Trail. Meet at 9:30 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.

Saturday, June 13: Sycamore: Backbone/Guadalasca/Overlook/Backbone .   This is an extended loop at one of NRMB’s favorite ride locations!  It begins familiar enough, accessing Sycamore Canyon via the connector trail then down the asphalt hill and over to the Sin Nombre and Two Foxes singletracks all the way to the base of the Backbone singletrack.  We’ll climb Backbone and the Overlook fireroad over to Guadalasca, a very fun singletrack that takes us down into Wood Canyon.  This is where the “extended” portion of the ride begins.  We’ll ride down Wood Canyon and Sycamore Canyon toward the beach to the base of the Overlook fireroad.  Then, it’s a 4.5 mile moderate climb up Overlook to the top of Backbone, where we’ll enjoy a fabulous descent back to the canyon floor!  From the bottom of Backbone, we’ll rejoin the Sycamore Canyon fireroad and retrace our route back to the cars. Meet at 9:00 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.

Sunday, June 14: Limekiln, Brown's Cyn & Comanche.   We will ride up Limekiln Canyon from Rinaldi to where it exits at Sesnon.  Then we head West on Moonshine Canyon veering off to the north into the Oak groves where we descend into Browns Canyon.  The decent is using a nice single track that is referred to as the "Luge" since it kind of feels like a bobsled track.  From the bottom we will make multiple stream crossings ending up on Browns Canyon Road.  We will ride uphill (North) about a mile on pavement to Antonivich park.  Here we will ride down the combination of fireroads, rocky sections, single tracks and stream bed until we climb out by the 118 Fwy.  Finally we will take the Mission trail East back to our original starting location.  Meet at 8:30 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.

Saturday, June 20: Santa Ana River Trail.   Simply put, this is one of the longest, best singletracks in this or any other region!!! Besides being such a beautiful singletrack ride in the pines it also just about the most fun that one can have on two wheels…at least legally! We’ll hit the SART just east of the quaint hamlet of Angeles Oaks. From here, we’ll be crossing creeks, curving through pine groves and roller-coasting over knolls. It’s not until a third of the way through the ride that you’ll notice you’ve been ascending most of the way. After crossing Glass Road we’ll gently climb some more while taking in the excellent views. Our turn around spot is at the South Fork Parking Picnic Area. On the return trip the trail rocks and rolls as you duck and dodge trees, stones and Manzanita. In fact, by the time you reach Middle Control Road you’ll have a silly grin plastered on your face that stretches from ear to ear. Then it’s a near 3 mile climb back out to the cars on fireroad. Note: This trail is fairly narrow with some steep drop-offs at times. Meet at 9:00 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.
Endurance Rating = E5, Technical Rating = T5, 28 Miles, About 5.5 Hours
, Ride Leader: Tamara

Please send your rsvp's to Tamara at MtnBykGirl@yahoo.com if you plan on doing this ride.

Directions:   Take I-10 east and exit at Alabama Street in the city of Redlands, at Lugonis Avenue (Hwy 38) head Northeast, toward the mountain. Drive about 18 to 20 miles before you reach Angelus Oaks--the Oaks Restaurant is on the left-hand side of the road. We park in the back area, where the Post Office parking lot is. The drive is about 80 to 90 miles and takes about 1¾ to 2 hours so allow plenty of time to get there. It is so worth the drive. If you plan to go let me know so we can arrange carpooling.

Saturday, June 20: Sherwood Forest / Space Mtn / Rosewood.   We start by riding a few blocks on pavement and pick up the “Sherwood Forest” Singletrack off of Los Padres Drive. At the top, we turn right at the fire road and continue on until we take another single track that takes us back towards Space Mountain. Then it’s a moderate climb up the Space Mountain Singletrack. At the top we’ll continue across the Los Robles Singletrack until we get to the picnic table. After our break it’s time to catch some thrills as we make our way down the Rosewood Singletrack to Lynn Road. After a short jaunt on pavement we are back on dirt again. This portion of the trail has a few ups and downs and connects with the whoop-de-doo trail that leads back to the cars. Meet at 9:30 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.

Once inside the park we’ll proceed along the main fireroad, which passes through a fairly short but technical rocky streambed. After a short stop at the M*A*S*H site we’ll tackle the first 1.25 miles of Bulldog. After the steep but fairly short climb up Bulldog we’ll cut off onto Lookout Fireroad that will bring us down to a paved road in the Malibu Lake area. Then we’ll take Crags Road to a back entrance of the park and pedal back to the cars via the same path as before. Meet at 9:00 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.

Saturday, June 27: Backbone @ Encinal.   This is an out and back ride that is 100% singletrack and 200% fun. We will begin the ride with the newer section of the trail off of Zuma Ridge Motorway. It is approximately 10 miles along the Backbone singletrack to the parking area at the top of Coral Canyon. This trail has a lot of ups and downs and is quite technical in some sections. We’ll stop at the parking area for a while and take in the view. The ride back to the cars will proceed along the same trail. Meet at 8:00 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.

Park in the dirt area just off the road.

Sunday, June 28: Westridge/Sullivan Canyon.   This is a loop ride that begins with a moderate to fairly difficult climb up the Caballero singletrack to dirt Mulholland. From here it is a moderate climb on fireroad to the Nike tower. We will then ride the West Mandeville Fire Road (AKA Westridge) all the way down to where the dirt meets the road. An option for more advanced riders is to ride the firebreak singletrack (although the descent is mostly downhill, there are some rather challenging uphill sections along the way). There are several places where the fireroad and singletrack cross so you can switch from one to the other. At the bottom we will regroup and ride a little bit of pavement over to Sullivan Canyon. From here it’s a mostly moderate climb, with the exception of one fairly difficult climb, back up to dirt Mulholland. The ride ends with a fun downhill thrill on Caballero. Meet at 7:30 am and be ready to depart 15 minutes later.
